OT: Lions fire OC and OL Coach

Hahahaha

I guess coordinating a Stafford-led offense is tougher than "coaching" Drew Brees as a veteran in an offense he knows well.

That's too bad. It would be nice if that bunch continues to play so terrible but by firing these guys they might improve.

Not to worry, it will be years before they can rebuild. By then Megatron will be retired. They are no threat to the Packers for the next 6 years or so.

I realize they are no threat but it is nice to have a team our division like this.

The coaches got blamed but was it really their fault? Easier to replace coaches than players mid season. From the time of the Lions second TD in the first quarter until the clock hit 3:21 left in the fourth, the Lions were held to 5 yards of offense. They had 3 drives that ended up with negative yards. Now, is that on the coaches alone?

Code: Select all
Drives by the Lions.
1.  7 plays   75 yards   TD
2.  4 plays   85 yards   TD
3.  4 plays    3 yards.  Punt
4.  6 plays    8 yards   FG.  From the fumble.
5.  3 plays   -3 yards   Punt
6.  3 plays    8 yards   Punt
7.  3 plays   -9 yards   Punt
8.  5 plays    8 yards   Punt
9   3 plays  -11 yards   Punt
10  8 plays   88 yards   Downs
11  5 plays   22 yards   Downs.
Since 1994, the QB sacked by Vikings more than any other QB in the league. Aaron Rodgers.

BTW, the new Offensive Coordinator in Detroit is Jim Bob Cooter. Now if that name don't make you smile.........

I know it's obviously not actually as bad as it sounds, but imagine hearing the headline for this for the first time:

"Lombardi fired by the Lions, Jim Bob Cooter hired".

Now, that headline just sounds like one that has all the makings of one of those "Top 10 Worst Decisions in NFL History" specials 25 years down the road. I mean, I know this isn't the Lombardi, but anyone who knows anything about football has to shudder a bit when they hear that headline. The fact that it's the Lions makes it sound even more pathetic.
Suck it Bears.

The O was being called out by the opposition. If your opponents know what is coming that is on coaches. It didn't help them that the HC in Miami gets replaced and the phins looked like a contender immediately even though it was against the texans.

Agree, the Bares are screwing themselves from having an average year, won't get a high enough pick to get a QB, not bad enough to justify some real changes.

I'd say it's possible that points squarely at the coaches. That's a very underperforming team, right there. When an entire team (or the offensive squad) is underperforming, it's as much about coaching as anything. It'd be different if they didn't have talent.

Have you watched the Lions? The playcalling is God-Awful. Just terrible. Nasty. But Stafford should start to get some of the blame as well. They have a complete mess going on in Detroit right now.

Start?

Stafford has been blamed and ridiculed by many analysts for a while now. It's just fantasy football and his production in raw numbers that have spared him being a laughing stock. He's never been thought of as an intellectually-sound guy who had great accuracy or makes great reads. Ever. He's just a volume guy with an elite WR.
