Went to the Straits

First time ever at Whistling Straits for Friday's round. great venue, great golf, but most impressive was the way the tournament was run. From the time we exited Interstate 43 you are basically escorted to the parking area(5 minutes) to the shuttle buses (5 minutes) loaded quickly with instructions on how to get the bus back when you are ready to leave. 5 minute ride, dropped at the gate, with a quarter mile walk to the entrance to the practice area, and finally the course. Because the course lays out along the lake, it is a long walk out to the northern and southern bounds of the course but the staff and volunteers made sure you got any or all the help necessary to get where you wanted to go.

I stood at the putting green, maybe 20 feet from Phil and gave him a "have a great round Lefty", and got a tip of the cap from him in return. My day was made right there. The concession prices cheap in comparison to other tournaments I've attended. Easy access to the viewing areas, with true golf fans. Great Day. If you get a chance go.

I work at near there and the company had tickets. I was given a chance to attend the practice round for free + paid day off without burning vacation.... I worked. Golf just isn't a spectator sport. I could have sat down at the restaurant with a table full of PGA all-stars next to me and not recognized a single one of them except Tiger Woods.

I love watching golf on TV on weekends when I'm hungover or didn't sleep well. Dozing off to slowing changing pics of beautifully landscaped scenery, with announcers that wouldn't get shushed at the library. A near instant, restful nap every time.

I wish I would have been there to see John Daly throw his iron into Lake Michigan. That guy must be fun to party with.

Daly's episode created a huge slow down in play. Justin Rose had pulled his second shot on 2 close to the tee on 7 where JD was going through his tantrum, meaning the play on 2 stopped as well. Probably causing a twenty minute delay. On a side note , JD's third wife is now his caddie. She was dressed like a 70's love child with short shorts and these funky knee socks. Combined with JD's psychedelic garb was quite striking and funny.

I know that most find golf, especially viewing golf boring, but if you are into it, this week was great. BTW, Wisconsin,(rated as 7th best) showcased as a premier destination, by Golf magazine, combined with the genuine goodness of Wisconsinites, the reaction of all the out of state visitors, this was a great success.

I mean no disrespect to the game when I say it puts me to sleep when it's on TV, but it does. I like playing golf. It's a great game. But it knocks my ass out if I watch it on TV. Like a strong sedative. Second best thing to doze off to - major league baseball.

Glad to hear the event went well. :AOK

Grew up about 20 minutes from there. I remember when they first starting building that course.

I spent 26 hours in just two days at Oshkosh looking at sales brochures for airplanes more expensive than my home and watching airplanes take off and land and enjoyed every minute of it. Other people like golf with the same degree of passion! I don't judge.
